There are certain locations on Long Island that never disappoint, and Sunken Meadow Park is one of them.
As a Long Island maternity photographer, beach sessions have become one of my absolute favorite ways to document this season of life. There is something special about slowing down, taking your shoes off, feeling the sand beneath your feet, and watching the sun disappear into the horizon. On the right evening, Sunken Meadow rewards us with the most beautiful cotton candy skies that look like they belong in a fairytale.
This beautiful maternity session took place during one of my model calls, and it quickly became one of my favorites of the season.
More Than a Model Call
One of the things I love most about photography is getting to know the people standing in front of my camera.
When this couple applied for my model call, I knew we would create beautiful images together. What I didn't expect was how naturally their love and connection would shine throughout the entire session.
As we walked along the shoreline and watched the sunset over the Long Island Sound, their excitement for becoming parents was evident in every interaction. The gentle touches, the laughter, the quiet moments in between—it all told a story that didn't need words.
Photography has always been about more than creating beautiful images for me. It is about preserving memories and documenting the moments that deserve to be remembered long after they have passed.
Celebrating Two Milestones at Once
What made this session even more meaningful was that it took place just shy of the couple's wedding anniversary.
As I photographed them together, I couldn't help but think about how much life can change in just a few short years. Not only were they celebrating another year of marriage, but they were preparing to welcome their greatest adventure yet—their baby.
The anticipation, excitement, and love they shared was woven throughout every image.
Years from now, I hope they look back on these photographs and remember exactly how this season felt. The anticipation of meeting their baby. The quiet moments before their world changed forever. The love that had already begun growing long before their little one arrived.
Why Sunken Meadow Park is One of My Favorite Long Island Photography Locations
Sunken Meadow Park offers some of the most beautiful sunsets on Long Island.
Between the shoreline, the rolling dunes, and the unobstructed views of the water, it creates the perfect backdrop for maternity, family, and couples sessions. Every sunset is different, but when the sky turns shades of blush pink, lavender, and peach, it feels almost magical.
These dreamy cotton candy skies are one of the reasons I continue returning to this location year after year.
But the true beauty of any session isn't the location.
It's the people.
The connection between two parents waiting to meet their baby.
The way they look at each other.
The excitement of imagining the future while embracing the present.
Those are the moments worth preserving.
